A former head of Medical College & Hospital’s gynaecology and obstetrics department, Sanghamita was 80. Sanghamita was elected as an MP from Bardhaman-Durgapur in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Born in 1946 to former assembly speaker and state law minister Syed Abdul Mansur Habibullah and educationist Maqsooda Khatoon, Sanghamita studied at Medical College and did her postgraduate in the UK. In 1975, she married Nure Alam Chowdhury, a former acting Chief Justice of Calcutta HC and state animal resources minister.
