Kolkata: Police in south Kolkata have launched investigations into a series of financial cheating cases after fraudsters duped local residents of lakhs through deceptive property deals and fake online vehicle sales.
The suspects made the victim sell her Jamir Lane flat for Rs 32 lakh between July 2023 and Nov 2024, according to police records. In another incident reported from the same locality, a 22-year-old youth looking to buy a two-wheeler was swindled out of Rs 37,000 after he responded to a social media listing for a bike and met the seller near Park Street on Tuesday afternoon. After the buyer transferred Rs 37,000 via an UPI app, the seller said he needed to retrieve essential ownership documents from a nearby location and rode off.

In the first incident, scammers allegedly convinced a senior citizen in the Gariahat Police Station area to sell a residential property below market value.
