Kolkata: Police rescued two men, who were abducted after being called to Parnasree, in a fake gold-loan deal. Five persons were arrested.
They have been sent to police custody until Nov 11. Biswajit Mitra and his friend were held captive by the gang, which demanded ransom from their families. Biswajit’s family first paid money, but when the kidnappers demanded more, they contacted the Amherst Street Police Station. A team, led by OC Rajib Bhattacharya, traced the ransom calls and bank transactions, then set a trap by pretending more ransom would be paid. Police first arrested two suspects, questioned them, and then raided their hideout, from where they rescued the two victims and arrested three more suspects. The arrested persons are Prakash Das, Sourav Malakar, Shivshankar Malakar, Joseph Sutar, and Dweep Prakash. Police are now trying to recover the ransom money and checking if the gang was involved in similar crimes elsewhere.
