The accused Rajbir Singh allegedly leaked sensitive Indian military information to the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. Kolkata: Punjab Police arrested a former Army personnel in north Bengal’s Hasimara on Thursday in an espionage case.
“The investigating team had initially approached airport authorities for Singh’s transportation but was asked to obtain a court order before proceeding,” the counsel said. Singh was produced before a Siliguri court which granted two days of transit remand, allowing the Fazilka police team to take him to Punjab. Police records cited by the counsel suggested that Singh had been on the run since the case was registered.
The case was registered at Fazilka on Oct 8 under Sections 3 and 4 of the Official Secrets Act, according to the state counsel at the Siliguri court. Singh is accused of illegally sharing classified information and intelligence inputs with ISI over the internet while serving in the Army.
