Kolkata: The ED has arrested real estate developer Amit Gangopadhyay for allegedly forcibly occupying land and carrying out illegal constructions.
Arrested for non-cooperation in the probe, he was arrested, produced at Bichar Bhawan on Wednesday and sent to police custody till Sept 19. Gangopadhyay’s company has been accused of seizing plots at multiple locations in south Kolkata to build housing projects, using fake documents. He was summoned to the ED office on Tuesday for questioning.
In 2023, multiple FIRs were registered against him on charges of land grabbing, fraud and forged documents. Gangopadhyay is known to be close to a former Trinamool MLA who lost the assembly elections.
