It also approved 50 kg rice and a one-time Puja assistance of Rs 5,000 for workers of 21 closed tea gardens. The cabinet also approved grants for 800 additional Durga Puja committees that had sought permission beyond the Sept 5 deadline, taking the total number of Puja committees receiving govt support to 58,000, the CM said. The school education vacancies include 4,432 primary assistant teachers, 6,052 upper-primary assistant teachers, 12,343 assistant teachers, 1,032 postgraduate teachers and 4,394 headmasters and headmistresses. “Around 21 tea gardens across the state involving 19,524 workers are closed in the state since Jan 1, 2023. They are neither receiving salary nor the bonus of 20% that our govt is offering. In a small gesture, we are offering Rs 5,000 one-time puja assistance and additional 50 kg rice for these workers,” said Adhikari. These workers get 35 kg rice from the state govt. The cash assistance is intended for eligible workers below 60. Last year, the TMC govt had provided 16% but this year, the state govt is offering 20% for tea garden workers, the CM iterated. He maintained that govt’s proposal for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana (PMCSPY) has been approved by Centre with a total of Rs 312 crore approved for the scheme. Adhikari announced the state’s decision of extension of puja grants to 800 additional Puja committees. The CM said that the latest approval has taken the total number of supported committees to approximately 58,000, compared to around 45,000 last year.
