Kolkata: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) new president, Lalu Das, plans to introduce biometric attendance for board employees.
The biometric attendance system needs to be introduced at the board office before bringing it at schools,” said Das, adding that the board would prepare a roadmap for reforms after the puja vacation. After the BJP govt came into office, the biometric attendance system was introduced at govt offices.
“Quality education is my priority for which, we need to upgrade the infrastructure at schools,” Das said, adding he was hopeful that the teacher shortage issue would be resolved shortly. We will hold an orientation programme soon,” he said. “After speaking with board officials, I found that a lot of things need to be reformed, especially the work culture at the office as well as at schools. The secondary education board had started a biometric attendance system during the tenure of former president Kalyanmoy Ganguly, but for the past two years, the device for registering the attendance has been out of function. Das ordered its repair. “There are many issues but our govt us taking initiatives, and soon, the sene will change. We have everything, but the problem is with people’s mindset, which we need to change to be able to deliver quality education at state-run secondary schools. If other states can do it, why not us? We need to train our teachers.
