Kolkata : A road traffic accident 13 years ago had Bolpur resident Saswata Kundu limping and whining in pain at each step he attempted to take. Now after an ankle replacement surgerythe 33-year-old Bolpur man has regained the ability to walk and has started bouncing back to normal life.
Kundu had sustained a severe fracture in his left ankle in the accident 13 years ago. Even as he underwent surgical procedure to fix the fracture and he was doing well for few years Kundu developed post-traumatic arthritis in the injured ankle, progressively damaging the joint and severely restricted his mobility. It had become increasingly difficult and painful for him to walk properly, affecting his everyday life.
Kundu underwent the procedure on July 19 where doctors replaced the damaged bone and cartilage in the ankle joint with an implant to offer relief from the severe arthritis pain and restore movement.
