Howrah: Howrah District Primary Education Council has started an inquiry into allegations that female DElEd examinees at Sankrail Girls High School were forced to undress and undergo invasive searches, including inappropriate touching, before exams held from Sept 8 to 12.
Council chairman Dilip Kumar Saha called the allegations horrifying and said some examinees were admitted to nursing homes due to trauma-related health complications. They claimed the headmistress said she was helpless. Following directions from the school education department, a three-member team of assistant inspectors visited the school and questioned the headmistress, school officials, and the owner of the private security agency involved. Howrah City Police is running a separate probe. Several examinees had already lodged an FIR at Sankrail police station, alleging women bouncers forced them to remove clothes and searched them in the name of preventing cheating.
