Kolkata: West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) is preparing to appoint a reputed sculptor or statue manufacturing agency for setting up the 125-ft-tall bronze statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the tallest in the country, at Eco Park in New Town. The statue will be set up with 140 MT bronze panels of thickness 8-10 mm using the lost-wax casting process and other technologies.
The existing tallest statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee stands 65 ft tall and is located at Lucknow.
Officials said that the statue is designed to act as a major civic landmark and heritage tourism centre equipped with public amenities, visitor infrastructure and green spaces to attract national and international visitors. WBHIDCO has been appointed as the nodal agency for the project,” said a govt official. Union home minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the statue in July this year. The monumental project aims to honour the legacy of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder on his 125th birth anniversary year. “The statue will act as a tourist hub for the city.
