Kolkata: Around 100 new air-conditioned buses would hit the city roads before Durga Puja , transport minister Arjun Singh said on Thursday, adding the department was gearing up to strengthen the public transport system during the festive rush. “We are trying our best to alleviate commuters’ pain,” said Singh. “AC trams will take pandal-hoppers to some of the major puja destinations during the day,” Singh said. He unveiled the West Bengal Transport Corporation’s Puja Parikrama booklet in the presence of WBTC managing director Abhishek Chourasia, joint MD Pranabesh Mondal and deputy MD Pradip Majumder. The state planned to bring trams back on the puja parikrama map. WBTC’s special festive services will include Puja Parikrama tours by regular and AC buses, CNG/AC buses, trams and waterways. The routes will cover major and heritage pandals in Kolkata and beyond. Services are being planned from Barasat, Howrah and other points.
