MUMBAI: Ashishkumar Maniya has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to illegally export diamonds worth over Rs 10 crore by concealing them in an export consignment at the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai.
The Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch, Airport Special Cargo, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, examined a consignment filed by Zeel Impex on September 8. The case was detected by officers of Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre under APSC (Airport Special Cargo) Commissionerate. Later the case was handed over to Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) under the same APSC Commissionerate for further investigation. During examination, officers allegedly discovered a false-layer separator beneath which a concealed cavity contained undeclared precious cargo, including different varieties and grades of diamonds, gems and jewellery.
