Navi Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against the retired stenographer of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) at Turbhe for allegedly stealing some confidential official documents from the office of the APMC secretary’s PA on Oct 7.

The accused, identified as Yashwant Moreshwar Deshpande (58), a resident of Kharghar, had retired on June 30 as a stenographer-cum-personal assistant to ex-secretary Sharad Jare. However, Deshpande had not surrendered the keys to the cupboards in the cabin of the personal assistant to the current APMC secretary Rajaram Dhondkar, who took charge on Sept 11. On Oct 7 around 2.45 pm, Deshpande had visited the third-floor office of the APMC administrative building in Turbhe, and under the pretext of collecting his personal documents, he allegedly stole some confidential official documents from the office cupboard. As per the directions of Dhondkar, the chief security officer Chakradhar Pawar (56) at the APMC administrative building lodged a police complaint on Oct 10, after which an FIR was filed at the APMC police station by invoking BNS section 305 for the offence of committing theft. Dhondkar said, “After I took charge on Sept 11, Deshpande stopped coming to office. On Oct 7, he came to the office, when the higher authorities were not present and he told the staff that he wanted to collect his personal documents in the cupboard. Dhondkar added, “However, Deshpande took several documents in multiple plastic bags without listening to the staff and left the office around 4 pm and climbed downstairs. Hence, an FIR was registered against him on Oct 10.

Hence, my PA told me about it, and I directed the chief security officer to stop him and seize the documents as he had not taken prior permission to collect the documents. When the security officer told him to hand over the documents, he returned some files, but took away one bag containing some documents. Abasaheb Patil, senior inspector of APMC said, “The accused Deshpande will be summoned to the police station for recording his statement and per the provision of the law, he will be served with a BNSS notice.

Hence, a notice was served to Deshpande to return the documents he had taken along with him. But, he claimed that he had not taken any documents. Download the TOI App.
