1, Sambra, on charges of alleged caste-based discrimination, manual scavenging violations and wrongful dismissal of a sanitation worker belonging to the scheduled caste community. Belagavi : The directorate of civil rights enforcement (DCRE) police have registered a case against the principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.

The accused has been identified as Sandeep Acharya, 47. The complaint was filed by Manohar Paris Holeppagol, 41, a resident of Balekundri Khurd, who was working as a sanitation worker at the school.

The complainant alleged that the principal avoided accepting water from him and later compelled him to manually clean drainage waste from a septic tank on Jan 9 and Jan 13, 2024. The complaint further alleges that on Aug 1, 2025, the principal made derogatory remarks referring to the complainant’s caste and subsequently terminated his services. He filed a case one year later in 2026.

After assuming charge as principal, Acharya allegedly discriminated against Holeppagol after learning that he belonged to a scheduled caste, according to the complaint. An investigation is underway. Download the TOI App.

Based on the complaint, the DCRE police registered a case on Monday under provisions of the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes (prevention of atrocities) Act and the prohibition of employment as manual scavengers and their rehabilitation Act.
