A KKRTC bus was driven from Koppalto Shahapur using a mobilephone torch
The bus, attached to the Koppal depot, was travelling from Koppal to Shahapur on Sept 23 when its headlights suddenly stopped functioning due to a technical fault, leaving the road ahead in near-total darkness. Koppal : A serious safety lapse came to light after a Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) bus driver allegedly continued driving in darkness using a mobile phone torch after both headlights failed midway through the journey. Continuous rainfall and wet road conditions further reduced visibility, making it difficult for the driver to see the route. Instead of immediately halting the vehicle at a safe location, the driver allegedly continued driving while holding a mobile phone torch near the windscreen. A passenger recorded a video of the incident from inside the bus. The footage, which has since gone viral on social media, captures passengers expressing fear after noticing the dark road ahead. Some can be heard describing the situation as frightening, while others ask fellow passengers to switch on their mobile phone flashlights to improve visibility. The video also shows poor visibility caused by rain and darkness as the bus moves along the road, with only faint light from mobile phones illuminating the route. As the stretch was narrow and other vehicles were moving behind the bus, it was reportedly driven for some distance using the mobile torch. The vehicle was later stopped by the roadside, where the fault was traced to the wiring. After repairs were carried out and the headlights became functional again, the bus resumed its journey and was later brought back to the depot. Download the TOI App.
