Dharwad : Regional cinema found a vibrant new platform in Dharwad as the two-day North Karnataka International Film Festival (NKFCC-2026) brought together filmmakers, actors, producers and technicians from across the region, celebrating both established achievers and emerging talent.
He said cinema is much more than entertainment; it is a powerful medium that records history, reflects society’s cultural roots and preserves the spirit of an era. Organised by the North Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, the festival was held at Kulapurohita Aluru Venkatarao Auditorium. The event focused on creating opportunities for filmmakers from North Karnataka, and encouraging the growth of regional film industry. The highlight of the festival was the Lifetime Achievement Award given to veteran actor and filmmaker Suresh Heblikar , for his outstanding contribution to cinema and environmental conservation. Accepting the honour, Heblikar spoke warmly about Dharwad, his hometown, describing it as one of his favourite places and expressing his desire to direct films in the district in the coming years. Veteran actress Bhavya , the chief guest, described Dharwad as a sacred land that has nurtured celebrated writers, musicians and artists, and praised the city’s rich cultural heritage. North Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Manjunath Hagedar outlined the chamber’s journey and its efforts to strengthen the regional film ecosystem. He also explained the vision and objectives behind launching the international festival.
