Mangaluru : Formation of Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas is progressing faster in rural areas than urban centres in Dakshina Kannada, with membership collection nearing completion in most of the district’s 223 gram panchayats while urban data entry continues.
Pradeep D’Souza, deputy director of youth empowerment and sports development, said the district had been allotted 347 sanghas, comprising 223 in gram panchayats and 124 across 14 urban local bodies. Govt employees have been appointed as mentors for all 347 sanghas.
Urban sanghas are being formed according to population, with two or three wards combined where required. Printed membership forms and bye-laws have been distributed to all gram panchayats and urban local bodies.
After a sangha enrols 100 members, it will hold its first meeting. A president aged at least 18 will be selected by the district committee, followed by the election of a 15-member executive committee. The sanghas will then be registered under the relevant societies registration process. Office space has been arranged in govt buildings.
