Shivamogga: Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s birthday was marked by contrasting events in Shivamogga Thursday, with BJP launching a month-long welfare drive and Youth Congress and NSUI members observing the day as ‘Unemployment Day’ through a black-clad protest.

BJP launched its month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ with special prayers at the Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple, led by MP BY Raghavendra. The leaders prayed for PM Modi’s health, longevity and continued strength to lead the nation toward global prominence, and outlined community service initiatives planned over the next month. The launch was attended by Shivamogga district BJP president Jagadeesh NK, City Unit president Mohan Reddy, MLA SN Channabasappa, MLC Dhananjaya Sarji and other senior party functionaries. Meanwhile, Youth Congress and NSUI members gathered in front of the Private Bus Stand wearing black attire to protest against the central govt’s economic and employment policies.

Yogesh questioned the govt’s priorities and called on the leadership to focus on employment generation, farmers’ welfare and women’s safety over divisive politics.
