Mangaluru: The proposed waterway development project at Gurupura in Mangaluru taluk (NW-42) and infrastructure projects at the Old Mangaluru Port have received environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearances, paving the way for their implementation.
The Karnataka Maritime Board is undertaking the projects, which include the development of the Gurupura waterway, a cargo-handling facility and cruise terminal at the Old Mangaluru Port, and a dedicated jetty for Lakshadweep along with associated infrastructure. An environmental public hearing for the projects was held under the chairmanship of the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner.

Details have also been uploaded on the Karnataka Maritime Board’s project portal at https://karnatakamaritime.in/ka-projects/, said the executive engineer of the ports and fisheries department, Udupi, in a release. The projects subsequently received approval from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), the Karnataka Environment Department and the CRZ authorities.
