Koppal: MLC Hemalatha Nayak has sought a probe into the alleged deduction of 20% from the monthly salaries of guest lecturers at Koppal University towards university maintenance and a building fund.
If they were found to violate rules, the practice should be stopped immediately and the money deducted from lecturers’ salaries refunded, she said. She said the university needed classrooms, laboratories, a well-equipped library, an administrative block, research centres and student hostels, besides a comprehensive campus development plan that factors in future expansion. Stressing that infrastructure development and the interests of guest lecturers were equally important, Nayak said the university’s development should not come at the cost of injustice to teaching staff.
She urged the higher education department to investigate the legality of the deductions. Nayak also flagged the lack of a permanent campus for Koppal University, three years after its establishment. She urged the govt to identify and allot suitable land and release funds for constructing a permanent building within a stipulated timeframe. She sought immediate intervention by the state govt, higher education department and university administration to resolve both issues.
