Repair work on the landslide-affected road near KSRTC bus stand is incomplete
CMC had said Rs 1.5 crore was sanctioned to develop the nearly 1km stretch as a cement road with a proper drainage system. Because of a shortage of funds, officials said Rs 70 lakh had been released for the retaining wall, but the contractor abandoned the work. Madikeri: Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) will carry out only patchwork on Raja Seat Road before Dasara , as sanctioned funds for its redevelopment have not been released, said CMC president Kalavathi.
“While the project work has been sanctioned, the funds have not reached us, delaying the work,” Kalavathi said. Kalavathi said instructions had been issued to install interlock tiles on the footpath within a week, though there was no clarity on when the retaining wall would be completed. He said the city’s roads had seen only patchwork being done ahead of the Oct festivities, for decades.
The entire stretch was dug up ahead of the chief minister’s visit to Madikeri in mid-Aug, but has remained untouched for over a month. Repair work on the landslide-affected road near KSRTC bus stand, damaged during July rains, also remains incomplete. A broken footpath, unfinished retaining wall, unrepaired pipeline and heaps of construction material are inconveniencing pedestrians. Anurag, a city trader, alleged that councillors blamed rain for project delays, although Madikeri had experienced sunny weather for the past month.
