Mandya : Mandya voters have petitioned DC Kumara to arrange free visas for them to visit

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Mandya : Mandya voters have petitioned DC Kumara to arrange free visas for them to visit the United States and meet Melukote MLA Darshan Puttannaiah, in a sarcastic protest against his frequent overseas trips.

The petitioners alleged that Puttannaiah, currently in the United States, had travelled abroad 18 times since winning the May 2023 election. They accused Puttannaiah of failing to exert political pressure for the release of Hemavathi river water while Cauvery water from KRS dam was being released to Tamil Nadu. They said the administration should facilitate their travel as they were unable to meet their elected representative in the constituency and wanted to place their grievances before him personally. Locals alleged that Melukote was facing severe drought , with farmers struggling and several lakes and water bodies drying up. The protesters questioned his response to farmers’ problems and alleged that several pressing constituency issues had not been effectively raised in Legislative Assembly. They also criticised the delay in officially declaring Pandavapura taluk drought-hit. They further alleged that Puttannaiah had failed to uphold the activist legacy of his late father and former MLA, KS Puttannaiah, questioning how a legislator elected with farmers’ support could remain silent while the farming community faced a serious crisis.
