Mangaluru: Mangalore University will resume issuing physical, printed marks cards to undergraduate students at the end of every semester from the 2026-27 academic year, providing students with semester-wise records instead of a single consolidated marks card issued after completion of the degree.
He said the university would not procure marks card paper independently or print the documents locally through private vendors. The arrangement is intended to standardise marks cards and prevent irregularities associated with local procurement and printing, the vice-chancellor said. “For students from these batches who require semester-wise academic records for recruitment, higher education or other purposes, the university registrar will certify individual semester transcripts,” Dharma said.
The decision follows the state govt’s move to restore semester-wise marks card issuance across state universities. The university had shifted to a consolidated marks card system following govt directions, with students receiving a single document containing marks for all six semesters after completing their three-year degree. The move had led to complaints from students who faced difficulties when employers or higher educational institutions sought individual semester records. Instead, the govt will specify the format and supply the required marks card paper through Mysore Sales International Ltd (MSIL), with universities printing the students’ details on the supplied material.
Mangalore University vice-chancellor PL Dharma announced the change at the Academic Council meeting on Tuesday.
Under the new system, students admitted to the first semester in 2026-27 will receive printed marks cards for each semester from the first through the sixth semester. However, the new system will not be applied to students in the current batch. Students already studying in the third, fourth, fifth or sixth semesters will continue under the existing system, and receive a consolidated marks card after completing the course.
