In June 2024, state tax on petrol was hiked from 25.9% to 29.8% and diesel tax from 14.3% to 18.4%, making petrol costlier by about Rs 3 per litre. In 2023, electricity tariff was hiked by 70 paise per unit and the metro maximum fare in Bengaluru from Rs 60 to Rs 90, he said.
Ravi said life has become costlier for the common man ever since Congress came to power. “The govt which should be a boon has become a bane,” he said. After hiking Nandini milk and curd prices recently, the govt has now hiked bus fares, increasing monthly expenses of employees, students, workers and rural people dependent on public transport, he said. Ravi said the hike in transport, electricity and fuel costs has increased freight and production costs, with the burden falling on consumers.
