Mysuru : Even as a five-year-old girl Shisira is fighting for her life after a head surgery at a private hospital, Mysuru city police have registered an FIR against an unidentified cop on charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon while she was watching Mysuru Dasara procession near Abul Kalam Azad Circle (Highway Circle) on Wednesday.

Narasimharaja police said a case under BNS Sec 118 (2) against an unknown policeman has been registered. At around 4.30pm, while people and children gathered near the circle were standing up excitedly to watch the tableaux during the procession, the police present there were instructing them to sit down and were striking with lathis.

A police officer said she underwent a surgery and is recuperating but is still in the ICU. HK Nagaraju has given a complaint to Narasimharaja police stating that his daughter was grievously injured and hospitalised, according to a release from the commissioner of police. In his complaint, he said he had sent his daughter along with the family of his elder brother, HK Srinivas, to watch the Dasara procession. The child began bleeding from the head, and she was immediately taken to Manipal Hospital in an ambulance vehicle, police said.

The girl suffered head and ear injuries after being hit by a lathi by a policeman who swung the baton to control the crowd. Investigation is underway to identify the cop though the family members have shared the photograph of the policeman who allegedly injured the girl. At that time, as people kept getting up to see the tableaux, the police instructed those standing behind them to sit down and struck the barricade with a lathi, during which the tip of the lathi hit the girl’s ear and then struck her head.
