Starting Sept 1, tariffs at Karnataka’s two popular tiger reserves have been hiked by around 40%. The latest tariffs, reviewed and approved in July 2026, were originally scheduled to be implemented in Aug. the latest revision has been restricted to Bandipur and Nagarahole tiger reserves While the department operates safaris at around 10 locations across the state. The cost of a regular bus safari has increased from Rs 600 per person to Rs 1,000, while the fare for children has gone up from Rs 350 to Rs 500. Charges for cameras and vehicle parking have also been revised as per the forest department order, with 18% GST applicable. Longer duration, spanning 35km “Unlike the previous 1.5-hour safari trip, each trip will now last for 2.5 to 3 hours. The 15-20km safari trip has now been extended to 30-35km.
The changes have been introduced following the state govt’s latest directions to reduce vehicular traffic inside protected areas and minimise disturbances to wildlife. Forest minister Ramalinga Reddy said, “Unlike previous safari trips, there have been lot of changes in both duration and distance covered. Defending the revision, a senior forest department official said, “The safari tariffs have been revised keeping in mind the rising salary of outsourced employees and fuel costs, which make up the substantial part of the safari income. the number of trips has been reduced by half,” an official said While the duration of the safari visit has been increased two-fold.
Bengaluru: If you are hoping to get up close to a tiger or leopard, watch a herd of elephants cross a forest track, or simply soak in the wilderness of Bandipur and Nagarahole, the thrill of a safari is set to come at a much steeper price. However, the forest department deferred the rollout to Sept. Hence, the costs have gone up. But now, they will operate only one trip. By cutting the number of trips while extending the duration and distance of each safari, the department aims to reduce the overall movement of safari vehicles inside the reserves.
