Police exhumed the body of an 86-year-old man on Friday, nearly three months after his burial

Mangaluru: Police exhumed the body of an 86-year-old man on Friday, nearly three months after his burial, following a murder case registered against his daughter.

An FIR was registered on Sept 5 at Urwa police station under Section 103(1) of the BNS based on a complaint filed by Herald Pereira, a family friend. Pereira suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with Urwa police raising suspicion against Rego’s daughter, Maya Rego While Rego died on July 19 .

Police said the exhumation and postmortem were part of the ongoing investigation. The FIR states that Albert was in good health, and his body was buried in haste without informing locals.

Following court orders, the body of Albert Rego, a resident of Kottara First Cross, was exhumed at the Derebail Church cemetery under the supervision of the Mangaluru tahsildar. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials collected samples from the remains for examination, with the upcoming postmortem findings expected to help determine the exact cause of death.
