Raichur : Residents across several districts of the Kalyana-Karnataka region are reeling under unusually hot weather as summer-like conditions persist despite the ongoing monsoon season. Instead of the expected cooling rains, the region has been experiencing a prolonged dry spell, accompanied by soaring temperatures and rising humidity levels.
For the past 10 days, people in Raichur, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Ballari, Koppal and Vijayanagara districts have endured relentless heat. Raichur recorded the region’s highest maximum temperature at 37.6°C during the past 24 hours, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. Kalaburagi followed closely at 37°C. Other districts also reported elevated temperatures, with Yadgir registering 36.7°C, Ballari 36.6°C, Koppal 36.3°C, Vijayanagara 35.4°C and Bidar 35.4°C. Weather records show that over the past week, Kalaburagi recorded maximum temperatures between 32°C and 37°C, while minimum temperatures remained between 24°C and 25°C. In September 2025, Kalaburagi recorded a maximum temperature of around 27°C, while Raichur registered highs between 30°C and 31°C. This year, temperatures are about 5°C to 7°C higher.
Many households and workplaces have reported increased dependence on fans and air conditioners, resulting in a noticeable surge in electricity consumption across the region. Meteorologists attribute the situation to a deficient monsoon and reduced atmospheric moisture, which have pushed daytime temperatures well above normal for this time of the year. The prolonged dry and hot conditions have left residents exhausted and uncomfortable. Women, children and the elderly are among the worst affected, with high humidity intensifying the impact of the heat. The IMD has indicated that the prevailing hot weather pattern is likely to continue until the end of September, offering little relief to residents waiting for a revival of monsoon activity.
The current heat is significantly higher than temperatures recorded during the same period last year.
