The victims included a 35-year-old woman and her five children, aged between six and 15 years, according to police. The family had been reported missing on August 24. Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbaragi said police received information around 8.45 am that six bodies had been found floating in the lake.

Police said the identities of the deceased were being confirmed and the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths were yet to be established.

One possibility being considered is that the family may have slipped and fallen into the lake while visiting the area, police said. Police and fire department personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were sent to BLDE Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are examining multiple possibilities, including suicide and accidental drowning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagaraj, Adarsh Nagar police station PSI Sitaram and other police personnel visited the spot as part of the investigation.
