The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Chikkamagaluru : Tension prevailed at a private primary school near AIT Circle in the city on Saturday, after parents and members of right-wing outfits expressed outrage over alleged directives issued for Eid Milad celebrations on the school premises.

Speaking to TOI , Hindu activist Santosh Kotian said, “The school sent a message to parents asking children to wear dresses like jubba-pyjama for Eid Milad. We are examining the matter based on the complaints received,” Chikkamagaluru town police officers said. DDPI Thimmaraju said he has no information about any incident of tension inside the school premises or such instructions given by the school administration.

The circular asked girls to wear salwar sets or lehenga cholis, while boys were asked to come in sherwanis or jubba-pyjamas. Objecting to the circular, activists belonging to Hindu organisations, along with some parents, gathered outside the school premises and confronted the teaching staff. They demanded to know why religious attire and celebrations were being promoted in an educational institution. Following the commotion, the school management called off the scheduled event. And some banners were erected inside the school premises. We just enquired about it”. “There is a proper legal procedure to raise objections through the education department rather than trespassing and creating commotion in front of young students. The school administration wasn’t available for comment.

The school management had sent a WhatsApp message requesting students to attend school in special traditional attire on Saturday, according to reports.
