Mangaluru: The II additional district and sessions court sentenced five persons in connection with the 2015 murder of Madoor Yusuf inside the district prison to life imprisonment on Thursday. The court on Monday had found Lithesh Poojary, a resident of Soorinje, Shobharaj alias Shobhi, of Madhya, Surathkal, Yuvaraj of Shibaroor, Pradeep from Ulayibettu, and Umesh Kombar of Balagodu village of Sullia taluk guilty.

Judge Jagadeesh VN pronounced the judgment, sentencing all five accused to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 76,000. Yusuf was murdered inside the jail on Nov 2, 2015. The case was registered at Barke police station under Sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 353, 427 and 302, read with Section 149 of the IPC.

Following the investigation, then ACP and investigating officer Tilak Chandra filed the chargesheet before the court on Jan 28, 2016. Special public prosecutor B Mohan Kumar of the third additional district and sessions court argued on behalf of the govt.
