Mangaluru : The Mangaluru South police have registered a case against nine students of a private college in the city in connection with an alleged ragging incident.
Police registered the case under Section 116 of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, and Sections 140(3), 127(2), 115(2), 118(1), 351(2), 109 and 190 of the BNS against Naseed Ameer, Adill M, Ashrak, Anish, Uvais, Rohan Ramesh, Adil VP, Rehan MP and Shinas. He told officers that the delay in filing the complaint was due to fear caused by the alleged threats.
Police said the complainant informed his family about the incident and later approached the police. The complainant alleged that the accused stripped them to their underwear, gagged them when they shouted for help and assaulted them with a belt, clothes hanger and their hands. They were also allegedly attacked with an iron knuckle duster. One of the accused reportedly recorded a video of the incident on a mobile phone. Ameer Ali further alleged that when they asked for drinking water, Rohan Ramesh brought contaminated water and later poured it over them when they refused to drink it. The accused allegedly threatened them with death and kept them confined until around 6pm. An investigation is under way.
