Mangaluru: The Tulu Parishath, Mangaluru has sought from the state govt a concrete roadmap for taking the language into schools, govt offices, research institutions and other public institutions.
This comes after the state cabinet on Sept 18 declared Tulu as the second additional official language for administrative and govt purposes in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Stay updated with the latest Mangaluru news.
Speaking to reporters, Shubhoda Alva, president of the Tulu Parishath Mangaluru, said concrete measures for development and wider use of Tulu should now follow the recognition. Alva also pushed for the establishment of a high court bench and said that the govt should take steps to familiarise people with Tulu literature and research and ensure works continue to be produced. Secretary Sumathi said that the organisation is involved in various activities and has planned to conduct classes.
Alva pointed out that the govt order limits the usage of the language to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and urged the govt to consider the difficulties of Tulu speakers in other parts of the state. On the use of Tulu in public services, he suggested that Tulu-speaking people should be employed in different govt sectors, while arrangements should also be made to teach Tulu to employees who do not know the language.
