Mangaluru: The Vth additional district and sessions court, Mangaluru, at Puttur, has sentenced a 60-year-old man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in an acid attack case registered at Kadaba police station.
Judge Sadananda Nagappa Naik sentenced Jayaananda to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday, and imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh under Section 326A of the IPC. The court also sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 504 of the IPC. The case was investigated by the then investigating officers, including Kusumadhar, who was serving as the police inspector at the Puttur women’s police station. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo two years’ simple imprisonment. In default of payment, he will undergo three months’ simple imprisonment.
After collecting evidence, the investigating team filed a chargesheet against the accused before the court. Public prosecutors Krishnaveni, Harishchandra Udyavar, Prakash Chandra Shetty and Jayanti K represented the prosecution before the court.
