Acting on information received via the 112 helpline, Aland police had seized a vehicle illegally transporting PDS rice around midnight last Monday. There have also been allegations that a ‘deal’ worth approximately Rs 1 lakh was struck to secure the release of the vehicle. Allegations had surfaced that after the vehicle was brought to the police station, it was released following a financial settlement instead of a case being registered and legal action taken. A departmental inquiry had revealed lapses in the discharge of duties and procedural irregularities in handling the case.
Kalaburagi : Four police personnel, including Aland police station inspector Sharanabasappa Kodla, have been suspended for allegedly accepting money to release a vehicle seized for illegally transporting PDS rice without registering a case. Those suspended are Aland station PI Sharanabasappa Kodla and constables Hanamanta, Mallikarjuna and Sayabanna. The police department has taken the matter seriously following continuous media reports regarding the incident.
