The accused, Umesh, is a resident of Hosakoppa
While being escorted along NR Pura Road, Umesh requested the police team to stop near Lingapura so he could relieve himself, according to police. The accused, Umesh , a resident of Hosakoppa, was apprehended by a police team led by Tunga Nagar police station inspector KT Gururaj at around 6am in connection with the fatal assault on Kiran at Ramenakoppa. Taking advantage of the situation, he allegedly attempted to flee and attacked police constable Tammanna with a leading chain. Despite repeated warnings and calls to surrender by inspector Gururaj, the accused allegedly continued his escape attempt. The inspector then opened fire, hitting Umesh in the left leg. Both Umesh and constable Tammanna, who sustained injuries in the incident, were immediately shifted to McGann District Hospital in Shivamogga for treatment.
Shivamogga : Tunga Nagar police opened fire on the prime suspect in the murder of Kulli Kiran after he allegedly attacked a police constable and attempted to escape from custody on Monday.
Shivamogga superintendent of police B Nikhil visited the spot and the hospital and said that Umesh and three other individuals have been taken into custody. Tunga Nagar police are continuing their investigation into the murder case.
