When he returned to the Montimaru home around 10.30am on Thursday, he noticed the rear door’s latch—accessible through a grill—had been opened from inside. The stolen gold ornaments weigh approximately 30g, valued at Rs 3.6 lakh. The crime occurred between 11.30am on Oct 14 and 10.30am on Thursday. Bantwal Rural police have registered a case under Sections 305, 331(3), and 331(4) of the BNS.
In the first incident, complainant Mohammed Riyaz reported a burglary at his residence at Nola in Montimaru. In the second incident, complainant Abdul Basheer reported a break-in at his home.
Riyaz had left his wife and children at their Montugoli residence and locked the Montimaru house, according to the complaint. Inside the house, clothes were scattered on the floor and the Godrej cupboard was ransacked. Using the cupboard key left on top of the Godrej, the thieves opened the inner drawer and stole a handbag containing gold ornaments.
As Basheer lived alone, he locked his house round 9pm on Wednesday and stayed overnight at his elder sister Zubaida’s house, located on the ground floor below.
