The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Udupi: Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the violent abduction of a stray cattle, following a viral CCTV video of the incident.

The incident took place on Sept 29, approximately 1.30pm. Based on the viral CCTV footage and the locals’ complaint, Kollur police registered a case (Crime No: 57/2026) under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, Sections 4, 5, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020, and Section 66(1) read with 192(a) of the IMV Act.

Unknown individuals arrived in a white car, aggressively dragged a stray cattle from the roadside, forced it into the vehicle, and fled the scene, according to the complaint filed by locals. Police said that two other individuals are involved in the case and will be apprehended shortly. During the investigation, a police team successfully tracked down the vehicle used in the crime and arrested the primary accused, identified as Mohammed Sinan, a resident of Gulvadi village in Kundapur. He has since been produced before a court. The arrest was carried out under the guidance of Kundapura subdivision DSP HD Kulkarni and the supervision of Byndoor circle inspector Shivakumar. The operation was led by Kollur police sub-Inspector Vinay M Korlahalli, along with head constable Nagendra, and CPCs Rudresha, Naveen Kumar, Vilas Rathod, and Nagaraja. The arrested accused, Mohammed Sinan, is a habitual offender reportedly involved in five other cattle theft cases across different police stations within the Kundapura subdivision.
