CCTVs installed in Nashik city in view of Kumbh Mela
As part of the drive, 1,500 CCTV cameras installed across Nashik will go live on a trial basis after Diwali, marking the first phase of an expanded surveillance network being developed ahead of the 2027 mega religious congregation. Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) is installing 5,500 CCTV cameras across Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, including 4,500 in Nashik city and 1,000 in Trimbakeshwar, to strengthen surveillance, crowd management and traffic monitoring ahead of the Kumbh Mela. “In the first phase, we will conduct trials of around 1,500 CCTVs already installed in the city to check their operations through the Command and Control Centre. Officials said a dedicated timeline has been drawn up for all Kumbh-related projects and progress was being monitored regularly to ensure completion before Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.

Officials said the network would enable quicker emergency response and better inter-agency coordination. “Trial operations will be monitored from the Command and Control Centre at the Smart City office in Panchavati,” an official said. NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri said the civic body would soon begin testing the cameras already installed in the city. The cameras will also be used to implement and test crowd-management standard operating procedures (SOPs) well in advance,” Khatri told TOI . Around 355km of the proposed fibre network has been completed, while work on remaining stretches is being coordinated with ongoing road and infrastructure projects in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar,” another official said. The officials said the surveillance network would play a crucial role in public safety, traffic regulation and crowd management during one of the country’s largest religious gatherings, while also leaving behind a significantly expanded monitoring infrastructure for routine city surveillance after the Kumbh.
Nashik : The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has shifted focus to completing Kumbh-related infrastructure projects, with the Simhastha Kumbh Mela flag-hoisting ceremony over. The CCTV project is part of an integrated surveillance system aimed at real-time monitoring of crowd movement, traffic flow and security arrangements across key locations. The trials are expected to help authorities identify operational gaps and fine-tune security, crowd-control and traffic-management systems before millions of devotees arrive for the event. “The surveillance network is being backed by an extensive optical fibre network. The cameras are being installed at strategic locations, including Shahi Marg procession routes, Sadhugram, roads leading to Ramkund and the Godavari ghats, city entry points, designated parking zones and major road intersections.
