1,81,927 students have taken admissions against 2,21,646 lakh seats across 387 engineering colleges in Maharashtra, according to data released by the state’s CET Cell on Tuesday.
Mumbai: Engineering admissions in Maharashtra have increased by over 15,000 this year, with a record 1.82 lakh students securing seats to undergraduate courses after four rounds of the centralised admission process and an institutional round. Last year, around 1.67 lakh students had secured admissions in various engineering courses. This year, around 2.51 lakh aspirants had registered for the admission process. At the end of the institutional round, 29,042 seats remained vacant across colleges. These include 26,682 seats under the centralised admission process and 2,360 management quota seats. 1,81,927 students have taken admissions against 2,21,646 lakh seats across 387 engineering colleges in the state, according to data released by the state’s CET Cell on Tuesday. Over 50% seats available across colleges are in computer or AI related courses. Of the admissions through the centralised process, 31,632 students were admitted in the first round, followed by 30,304 in the second, 29,929 in the third and 48,689 in the fourth round. Five courses with the highest intake include computer engineering (30,993), mechanical engineering (24,481), electronics and telecommunication engineering (21,821), computer science and engineering (20,423), and civil engineering (17,500).
The numbers are on the rise for the last few years. Despite higher numbers of seats available in computer courses, principals believe the demand there has plateaued. On the other hand, the increase is being recorded in computer-related courses such as AI, machine learning and data science.
Currently, students need to secure only 45% in physics, chemistry and mathematics in class XII.
