NAVI MUMBAI: A car driven by a 17-year-old youth plunged onto the Belapur-Uran railway track near the Parsik tunnel in the district on Thursday afternoon, leading to the halting of a local train, police said. The car fell onto the track from the hill over the Parsik tunnel at around 3.30pm, news agency PTI reported. Local police were conducting further probe, he said. The youth was critically injured and was hospitalised, a police official said. Details of exactly how the accident took place were yet to be ascertained, said senior inspector Kiran Undre of the Vashi Government Railway Police (GRP). Download the TOI App.
The car was removed from the track within two hours, he said, PTI reported.
An Accident Relief Train (ART) was immediately sent to the spot from Belapur, said Swapnil Nila, chief public relations officer of Central Railway.
