ARGUMENT TURNS FATAL
Mumbai Naka police identified the deceased as Rina Shaikh and registered a murder case against the accused, Idris Shaikh (21), who is in Indiranagar police custody in connection with an unrelated robbery case. “The following morning, locals found Rina unconscious and alerted police by dialling 112. She was rushed to Nashik civil hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries around 8.30pm on Monday,” police said. Police said Idris allegedly robbed an elderly man of a cellphone worth Rs 5,000 after intentionally ramming the victim’s car with his autorickshaw and picking a quarrel around 10pm on Sunday.
Police said it was yet to be confirmed whether the woman was Rina or someone else.
Idris, an autorickshaw driver, allegedly assaulted Rina near Wadalagaon and later at their rented residence in Bajrangwadi, according to police. Police said Idris and Rina had been living together for the past one-and-a-half years. “Further investigation is under way,” police added.
Despite intervention by neighbours, he allegedly fled the scene, leaving her with serious injuries. He has been remanded to four days of police custody till Thursday. Acting on the complaint, Indiranagar police traced and arrested him the same night. Investigators are also examining the identity of a woman who was reportedly accompanying Idris during the robbery incident. On the night of the alleged assault, Idris was also reportedly seen beating Rina near her parents’ home in Wadalagaon. The couple allegedly left the spot after Rina’s father arrived.
Investigating officer inspector Sudhir Patil said during the probe, police found that Idris had already been arrested by Indiranagar police on Sunday night in connection with a robbery case.
