Police said Sanskruti Bhagwat Biradar was playing near her home in Audumbar Society, Sainathnagar, around 12.15pm when the accident occurred. After Sanskruti lost balance and fell, the van ran over her.
Senior inspector Mahesh Bansode of the Nigdi police said the girl suffered severe injuries in the accident. “We have seized the vehicle and detained its driver and cleaner,” he said. The garbage collection vehicle first hit the motorcycle, which slipped off its stand and fell on the child. She was taken to a private hospital in Nigdi, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
