General Body meeting of NMC
Nashik : Anger swept through Nashik Municipal Corporation’s general body meeting on Wednesday after corporators across party lines blamed negligence at a civic project site for the death of a 33-year-old biker and demanded strict action against those responsible. His pillion rider was seriously injured. Corporators accused the contractor of failing to provide adequate barricading, warning signs and safety measures at the site.
The outrage centred on the death of Siddharth Gore, whose motorcycle allegedly crashed into water pipeline sections laid across a closed road in Siddharth Nagar early on Sunday.
Shiv Sena (UBT) demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for Gore’s family and warned of an agitation if the demand was not accepted. The House also demanded compensation for the victim’s family. Aher instructed officials to ensure that the family receives govt compensation, explore providing employment to Gore’s widow on an honorarium basis and bear the educational expenses of his children. The discussion turned heated when Shiv Sena (UBT) corporators alleged that repeated warnings about unsafe project sites had gone unheeded. Amid the outrage, some corporators voluntarily offered to contribute half of their honorarium to support Gore’s family. The mayor directed officials to facilitate the contributions after obtaining consent from willing members.
“A culpable homicide case should be registered against the contractor,” he said, warning that the matter could be taken to court if action was delayed. Shiv Sena functionary Ajay Boraste sought even stronger action.
