Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A farmer who allegedly owed a private finance company Rs 10,000 was found dead inside its office on Saturday, two days after recovery agents allegedly took him from his village. Police have registered a murder and abduction case against the firm’s owner, two recovery agents and other unidentified people.
“We have registered a case of murder and abduction against the owner of the private finance company, his two recovery agents who went to the village and brought the farmer to the office, among others,” said Nanded superintendent of police Neelabh Rohan. Police said those allegations are being investigated. Inspector Omkant Chincholkar said police immediately visited the office after receiving information about the death and conducted a panchanama.
The postmortem report is expected to clarify the cause and timing of death and help investigators piece together the events between Thursday and Saturday.
The deceased farmer, 40-year-old Chandrakant Shinde of Malkoutha village, had unpaid dues of about Rs 10,000 on a Rs 8,000 loan taken in Sept. His family has alleged that company employees confined and assaulted him over unpaid dues and later staged the death to look like a suicide. His family alleges he was forcibly taken to the company’s office on Thursday, and never returned home. On Saturday afternoon, Shinde was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the office.
Because shinde was allegedly taken away by recovery agents and was later found dead on the company’s premises, the case has drawn attention.
“Further action will be initiated after the autopsy report reveals the cause of death, timing and other facts,” Rohan said.
