Army man, a Modi fan, was charged with breaching security at PM’s 2023 event in Mumbai

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Mumbai: In light of the Khar resident and his security guard, a former serviceman, allegedly trying to enter Jio World Plaza in BKC a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s visit on Tuesday, a retired assistant commissioner recalled a case he investigated three years ago.

On Jan 19, 2023, an army man allegedly used a genuine but tampered NSG identity card and a fake duty pass to get close to PM during his visit to the MMRDA ground in BKC for the inauguration of Metro lines.

The retired officer said the army man’s sole intention was to see PM as he was a fan, and not cause any security problem.

A chargesheet was filed in April 2023, while the trial is yet to begin. Police filed the chargesheet within 90 days of registering the FIR. The retired police officer, who served with State Intelligence Special Branch in 2024, told TOI on Tuesday that the army man and his wife later attended PM’s 2024 affordable housing inauguration in Navi Mumbai with a valid invitation pass. BKC police registered an FIR on Jan 20, 2023, under the Indian Penal Code.

The army man was released on bail the next day by Bandra court.
