The recovered loot of the Jalgaon heist
The four accused were produced before a court on Sunday and remanded to 10 days of police custody for further investigation. During the inspection, police found that although CCTV cameras had been installed inside the premises, they were not operational due to a technical issue when the robbery took place.
“We are probing when the accused hatched the conspiracy, how they came together and whether they were involved in other crimes as a group,” inspector Shashikant Patil said. Bank officials have since rectified the problem and restored the surveillance system. In a dramatic turn, the robbers were tracked down and arrested within a couple of hours of the crime. During the robbery, one of the accused fired at the bank’s security guard, though no one was injured. The robbery bid had left Jalgaon residents stunned. The swift response of two bank employees and villagers who joined the chase has drawn widespread praise. Superintendent of police Shrikant Dhivare felicitated the villagers for helping police apprehend the accused. One of those arrested is a former police sub-inspector.
