Patil, Jalgaon ’s guardian minister, made the remark at a Teachers’ Day event in Jalgaon on Sept 5.
His comment drew laughter at the event and later criticism, according to media reports. Asked about Patil’s party, Sule said, “Isn’t he in the ruling alliance?” He cited smaller family sizes and competition from English-medium schools as reasons for falling enrolment in Marathi-medium schools.

“I think next time when the chief minister comes, since he meets you once a week, tell him humbly on behalf of all of us, rein in your MLAs and ministers,” she said. “We fold our hands and request this.
