Bandra Kurla Complex police registered a hit-and-run case after a 48-year-old food delivery worker, who had battled severe injuries for almost 50 days, died at a Chembur hospital on Sept 17. Mansoor Chopdawala, a Kurla (West) resident and sole breadwinner, was struck by an unidentified vehicle near Mumbai University in Santacruz (East) between 10.30pm and 11pm on July 29.
The case was registered after Chopdawala’s wife, Reshma Chopdawala (46), filed a complaint on Friday. She said she learnt about the incident when a Zepto driver, Parvesh, called her at 11:10 pm on July 29 and informed her about the accident and her husband’s admission to Bhabha Hospital in Kurla.
Police said the vehicle was being driven at high speed and hit Chopdawala’s scooter, causing severe injuries to his head, leg, ear and eyes. She and relatives Samreen Bagwan and Shabbir Bagwan went to the hospital, where Zepto colleagues told them that an unknown vehicle had hit Chopdawala while he was riding his electric scooter. The driver allegedly fled without providing medical assistance. Police have sought CCTV footage from the night of the incident to identify the vehicle.
