BMC has demolished all 27 encroaching structures in Borivli East reserved for a BEST bus depot
A senior civic official said the action against the two officers was initiated after the administration identified lapses in the case’s handling. The ward officer allegedly failed to adequately update the administration on the proceedings, while the law officer did not act promptly or ensure effective representation of BMC’s position before SC, the official said.
On Thursday, former BJP MP Gopal Shetty, party representatives and affected residents met Bhide and senior civic officials to raise concerns over the demolition of the 27 structures. Sections 53, 54 and 55 place the primary responsibility on BMC to remove unauthorised constructions, including hutments and sheds, and hand over vacant possession. SC had, as far back as 2008, directed BMC to remove the unauthorised constructions whose occupants were not parties to the consent terms, and again on Nov 13, 2025, and July 28, 2026,” Shah said.
Shetty questioned the demolition, maintaining that the structures were protected, and said the occupants had not been given an adequate opportunity to present their case before SC. Anand Dubey, one of the affected residents, said they were not even given sufficient time to remove their belongings before the razing. A senior ward official said BMC had carried out the demolition in compliance with SC’s directions. Anil Shah, director of Rushi Realty India Pvt Ltd and constituted attorney for owner Parag Construction, said BMC had repeatedly delayed clearing the structures despite the developer’s requests.
“Under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, the land has to be cleared and handed over to the allottee.
